Biography
French spy; a courageous secret agent who infiltrated enemy-occupied France and worked with distinction until arrested by the Gestapo in April 1943. Despite being tortured with a red-hot iron and her toe nails being pulled out, she refused to give any information. After two years in solitary confinement, she was finally liberated by the allies in 1945. Subsequently awarded the George Cross.
