Biography
American track & field champion. "The California Comet" tied Jesse Owens world record on 6 June 1941. The cancellation of the Olympic games during World War II deprived him of his chance at recognition. A hamstring injury in 1946 prevented him from competing in top form. Elected to the USA Track & Field National Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1974.
He died on 12 August 2007.
